The Bible is full of History. I’m convinced that one could spend a life time studying biblical history and never get to the end. In my time with the Lord today the topic of Gethsemane was highlighted. Goodness, so many things happened in that garden of olive trees. In Hebrew, ‘gath’ means press and ‘shemen’ means oil. Let’s explore why that is a powerful name for such a beautiful place.
In the Bible, this garden was a place where Jesus went often with his disciples to pray. There are some of these olive trees that are over 2000 years old and still making olives. That is pretty impressive. However, there is one particular night that was different than the rest. It was the night Jesus was betrayed.
Jesus was no different when it comes to things “pressing” upon us. He truly wasn’t. When I was called by the Lord in 2010, He truly had me in His Word for 3 days. Yep, 3 days, doing nothing but reading scriptures about him being a man, of flesh and blood. He wanted me to know Him in that way. Golly, I was raised in the Church, went to Sunday School and grew up that way, but I never knew Him as a person. That may sound odd to some but that is the truth.
Today, I know Him as a person. This particular time that I am to write about is the night He was betrayed and arrested. In the Book of Matthew KJV, I am to write about this account of that night. It’s from the Garden of Gethsemane scripture. When you have a relationship with Jesus, knowing him as a man, flesh and blood, this Garden of Gethsemane prayer takes on a whole new meaning. Matthew 26:36-46 says this,

Matthew 26:36-46 says this,
Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, ‘Sit here while I go and pray over there.’ And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, ‘My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay
‘He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, ‘O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.
Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, ‘What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.’
Again, a second time, He went away and prayed saying ‘O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.’ And He came and found them sleeping again, for their eyes were heavy.
So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then He came to His disciples and said to them, ‘Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.’
If you have ever been “pressed” in your life than you can relate some what. It may not of course have been what Jesus went through, but what is to be gained here is the fact that Jesus was of flesh and blood. He knew pain, and he bled blood just like we bleed blood. It was a moment in time with His Father. Just Him and His Father. Ever had one of those moments?
You will also find that in the Bible, nothing is by chance. He was in the right place at the right time, just exactly where he was suppose to be to pray that prayer to His Father. The perfect place to have that Father and Son conversation. Or daughters too. Father loves both His sons and his daughters, that is for sure.
So do not ever hesitate to call out to your Father, In Heaven. For He truly is waiting to hear from you. Pray that His Will Be Done. His will is perfect.
