“And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.” 2 Samuel 24:18 KJV
Mount Moriah is a mountain in Israel. It’s famous, for many things, but the second blog in this series…The Altar Of God is about the Threshing floor that God, through his prophet Gad, told King David to buy.

King David went up the mountain to the Threshing floor, and Araunah the Jebusite was there. The scripture tells us this,
“And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah sent out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground. And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.” 2 Samuel 24:20-21 KJV
The reason why King David is buying the threshingfloor is to stop the plague that had come upon the people. What is absolutely amazing is what David does to get the threshingfloor to stay the plague.

50 Shekels
Araunah the Jebsite tells King David to take everything and to do what seems good for him.
David, however, is not interested in his offer. David wants to actually buy it. The currency of that day was what was called shekels. In today’s world,2022, 1 shekel equals .30 cents in US dollars.
“All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto a king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee. And the king said unto Araunah, Nay, but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.” 2 Samuel 24:23-24 KJV
The Altar
King David actually buys the threshing floor. He bought it. The threshing floor IS the Temple Mount we see today.
Next comes the altar. This is what scripture says,
“And David built there an Altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.” 2 Samuel 24:25 KJV
The altar David made to offer burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD, was actually the very place Abraham offered Issac, his son that Genesis 22 talks about, that the Ram shows up just in time.
This altar is still with us, and so is King David’s threshing floor. The altar, is inside the Muslim Dome of the Rock. However, non-muslims can not go inside the Dome of the Rock, only Muslims. King David’s threshing floor, The Temple Mount, is still there on Mount Moriah in Israel.
